Hi, I am a student at McLean High School in Terre Haute Indiana. I am leading a program to promote awareness of the issue of highway I-69 in the Terre Haute/Indiana area. I am seeking to get as many names as possible to sign my petition which I will deliver to Governor Frank O'Bannon myself. Indiana is planning on building a highway to connect Indianapolis to Evansville, and if they decide to run it through Bloomington instead of Terre Haute, not only will it reduce Terre Haute's business by 40%, it will cost much more. Also by running I-69 through Terre Haute, it will only add about 10 min of travel time to the drive from Evansville to Indianapolis. Dateline NBC did a piece on this issue in April of 1998 and they found that if they updated US-41 that the same job could be performed for $700 million rather than $1.5 billion for the Bloomington route. Also they found that this route is only 12miles longer than the proposed diagonal cut from Indy to Evansville. Plus the I-70/US-41 saves $100 dollars for every man, woman and child in the state of Indiana. Not to mention, the theft of hundreds of acres of farmlands and forests. It is estimated that there are approximately 60 familes whose property would have to be sold against their will to allow construction. These are just a few of the reasons why not to build I-69 and to upgrade US-41. So please, if you want to help please sign my petition at the bottom of the page. Thank You! Also, Just a little note, I want to thank WTWO for doing a news story about me and my site, so make you sure watch News Channel 2.
